Deuteronomy 8:2- Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you testing you to prove your character, and to find out weather or not you would obey His commands.
In this verse Moses was talking to the Israelites and telling them to remember what they and their ancestors had just went through. He told them to remember the Exodus from Egypt and what it took for them to stop going around the same stinking mountain.
God had tested the Israelites hearts through the wilderness of the Exodus. God knew what was on their hearts, so He did not test them for His benefit. He tested them so they could reflect on their own character. If you can remember the Israelites had complained to Moses on several occasions that God had led them out into the wilderness to die. Check theses next verses out.
Deut8:3- Yes, He humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with mana, a food previously unknown to you and you ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Deut8:4- For these forty years your clothes didn’t wear out, and you feet didn’t blister or swell.
Is God testing you in a certain area of your life?
Is there something that you are struggling with inside that you can’t seem to shake?
What is it?
It is important for us to reflect, to take an account on where we are at spiritually, as a leader, as a follower, as a husband, as a wife. It is easy to get into a everyday routine and end up missing what God might be trying to show us. The Israelite went in circles around the same mountain for forty years because they continued to turn back to what they knew and did not pursue God.
God knows you. He knows everything about you. He wants us to put our life into His hands and trust Him. He longs for our relationship with Him. In Jeremiah 1:5 God says, “ I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.”

This was an awesome post. I read all of Deut. 8 in my quiet time this morning and there's so much good stuff in that chapter. Thanks for bringing out points that I had never thought about.

I'm not sure if I'm responding to Jessica or if I'm responding to you, Rodney, but I have finally had a chance to get back on here and tell you what an amazing blessing it was to read your post on "Heart Doctor." I was so intrigued about the scripture you quoted that I went back and read chapters 1-8 and felt like God just opened up my mind and my heart and poured all of this understanding of these scriptures and why it was that they grabbed my heart like they did when I first read your post. It's the same thing when I was reading in Jeremiah one day and I read scripture I just KNEW that I had read before, but it was as if God, again, was pouring it all into me, telling me how it applied to me, the way our family has allowed Satan to beat us up and tear us apart! And this runs right alone with it. Anyway, I wrote a pretty long response to your posting, but guess what! I signed up for a blog site and I'm going to post it there so it doesn't take up all of your space here! I hope you get a chance to read it. :)
